We use AVG CloudCare to protect your Windows PC from viruses, malicious software etc.  If your PC doesn't have AVG CloudCare installed or you need to upgrade from an older version, this article explains how to do it.

Before you begin

Before you begin this task, make sure the following are noted:

  • Save any open documents you have on your PC.  You can continue working whilst the installation is taking place but once completed you will be prompted to restart your PC.
  • If you are using a laptop PC, make sure it has at least 45 minutes of battery capacity or ideally is plugged into the mains.
  • You will need a reasonable Internet connection to download the installation files (they are approx 150Mb).

Downloading the AVG Cloud Care Client

The first step in the installation/upgrade process is to download a small installer application - this then manages the rest of the installation.

To download the installer application click the link below:

  • Secure Access Required

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Browser you will be prompted to "Run" or "Save" the installer - you should choose "Run."

If you are using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox or something else for your Web Browsing you will find the installer has been saved and you will need to open it from the Downloads bar or folder to start the installation.

It will may take a few minutes (depending on the speed of your Internet connection) to complete the download of the remaining installation files.  The download progress window will be shown (see below) during this stage:

Removal of existing antivirus application

During installation you may see warnings your antivirus is turned off and shortly afterwards that your AVG CloudCare is out of date. This is normal and shows the installation is proceeding.  AVG CloudCare will switch itself on and complete an update as part of its installation.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of AVG or another antivirus application the installation will show this as it is being done (see below)

Restart your PC

Once the installation has been completed you will usually be prompted to restart your PC (see below) - you should do this at the earliest opportunity.

Checking your PC is up to date

Once your PC has restarted the installation will tidy any remaining bits that need doing before letting you know it has completed.  It is worth just quickly checking that everything is in order as follows:

To check the status of your AVG CloudCare

  1. Right-click the AVG icon in the bottom right of the Task Bar (see 1. below)
  2. Click "Open AVG AntiVirus..." from the short-cut menu.

AVG CloudCare Client - Open

The AVG CloudCare AntiVirus "Dashboard" is shown:

  1. Each component reports its status and all (except Firewall) should say Protected (see 1. below)
  2. Your protection should also be up to date (see 2. below)
  3. Note, we use Windows own Firewall to protect your PC and so AVG should report that it's Firewall module is not installed (see 3. below).
