How do I connect to my 15NBS PC remotely?

If you are looking to work from home more you can connect to your computer in 15NBS remotely using the built in remote desktop connection and work as if you were sat at your desk.  Here we explain how this facility works and help you get set up with it.

It is possible to connect to your computer in 15NBS remotely using the built in remote desktop connection and these instructions if the following are true -

Pre-requisites

  1. Your 15NBS PC has the "Pro" version of Windows.
  2. Your 15NBS PC is on the 'domain' and you are not logging on as a local user (we can confirm this).
  3. Remote Desktop is enabled (we can check this for you).
  4. Your computer in 15NBS is switched on and is set not to go to sleep.
  5. You know the name of your computer (we can confirm this for you).

On the remote computer

To connect to your 15NBS PC, first establish a VPN connection (please see VPN article) -

  1. Open remote desktop connection (for PC choose Start, Programs/All Programs, Accessories, Remote Desktop Connection - Sometimes the icon is in Accessories, Communications). 
  2. In the Computer field, type the name your 15NBS PC (eg. ABC1234)
     
    RDP1
     
  3. Click Connect.
  4. You will be prompted for your 15NBS username and a password. 
  5. For the username you need to use form 15NBS\username eg. 15NBS\aother
  6. Enter your normal network password.
  7. Click OK.
  8. You may receive several security warnings, it is safe to continue through these.
  9. After a moment you should be connected to your desktop.
