The ECHO Wallchart provides an organisation with an easily accessible way to see who is away and when. By making use of groups, the view allows individuals to better plan their absences and so avoid clashes. The Wallchart also integrates with other components of ECHO to present additional information such as leave entitlements, working hours and restricted leave periods. To protect employee confidentiality and privacy the Wallchart also integrates with the ECHO security allowing fine control over what can be seen and by whom.

Presentation

The traditional wallchart soon becomes a mishmash of stars, crossings outs, tippex, inserts making it difficult to see who is actually away when and where needed why. The electronic wallchart is fully integrated into the time and leave-sheets so that once a leave-sheet is updated the information is immediately reflected on the Wallchart. Colour coding is used to indicate different types of absence and wallcharts easily viewed for different months and years.

Integration also extends into controlling the leave application process through the use of restricted leave periods. This allows managers to indicate particular periods where leave cannot be taken and to have these periods highlighted on the wall to ensure individuals are aware.

ECHO will also remember the last view of the wallchart so that regular users do not need to adjust the view each time they call up the wallchart.

Groups

One of the challenges for teams is organising absence so as not to impact service or put pressure on colleagues. A leave wallchart helps individuals plan their absence however where people are in large or multiple teams co-ordinating absence can be difficult. ECHO makes use of groups and a dedicated view to present the wallchart allowing an individual to appear in multiple teams.

Managing confidentiality

The ECHO Wallchart reflects the need to communicate absences amongst colleagues whilst respecting individual privacy. Each type of absence can be controlled to determine which individuals or groups can see the absence and whether they are permitted to know what type of leave has been taken. For example, compassionate leave can be shown as “other leave” to colleagues however managers and the individual themselves can see what each type of absence is.
